Thickened Toe Nails
Onychauxis is a thickening or overgrowth of the nails. The nails may become discoloured turning white, yellow, red or black. If the nails are red or black, it is usually a consequence of dried blood beneath the nail plate. Thickened nails can be caused by trauma, fungal nail infections and systematic diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, poor circulation, diabetes and cancer.
At Mint Foot Care Podiatry, our podiatrists are able to diagnose and treat onychauxis. Routine medical pedicures may be recommended to maintain adequate nail health.
