CAM Walker/Moon Boot
CAM (controlled ankle movement) walkers also known as moon boots are prescribed by Mint Foot Care for foot, ankle and lower limb injuries to reduce load, pressure and movement.
CAM Walkers are often used as a substitute for a plaster cast due to their durability, hygiene and ease of removal for showering. Crutches can be cucumber some and place strain on the shoulders and arms. CAM walkers have ‘rocker’ soles, like a rocking horse, meaning that they are easier for you to walk in. They work by keeping the ankle and foot in a fixed position and reducing weight off your foot and ankle while you continue to walk. Reducing the load and pressure on the foot will allow it to heal more effectively.
We supply and can fit CAM walkers in our clinic for a range of conditions such as:
· Achilles tendonitis and tears
· Ankle sprains
· Fractures
· Ligament and soft tissue injuries
· Plantar fasciae tears
In most instances, moon boots are worn for a minimum of 6 weeks. An X-ray or ultrasound and physical review will be required to assess healing to confirm if the wearing of the CAM walker should be ceased.
